Unit President's Message

The Texas summer is here and half of 2024 has flown by. I remember last year when I was working on the rally schedule and thinking that everything that was being planned was so far away. I had no idea how many rigs we were going to be able to get attend each of my crazy ideas for a rally. I just wanted to make them all different and interesting. One crazy idea was to join the Great Houston Airstream Club (GHAC) out in East Texas the start of the summer season. It’s June, by the lake, it’ll be fine and we are among friends.  First the drive out to East Texas was so beautiful with all the tall pine trees and oaks. We had eight rigs attend from THCU out of the total of nineteen that attended. We had a great time getting to know the members of GHAC. We even got to see Bruce Lee again!! No, he didn’t die in 1973 that is only a rumor. Shhh. We had some great food provided by the hosts. The cook your own meat night was one of my favorites. There were some rounds of 42, Farkle, axe throwing and for charity left/right/center and a raffle of prizes provided by the GHAC. The Marek’s donated a couple of bottles of home-made wine for the raffle that was delicious. The campground was offering $10,000 for a record-breaking fish out of the lake so there were a few people out trying to catch the next big lake whale. As always, the rally was over too soon and we all had to head out on our own separate ways.  Cindy and Tim West put together a video of the rally, which was pretty cool.  Here’s a link if you want to check it out:  https://fb.watch/thC4fP68s1/  This was so much fun—a joint rally is already in the works with GHAC next year in Brenham, TX.  Whoop whoop!

If you haven’t heard, the WBCCI Amendment passed 83.6% to 13.3%. Thanks to everyone that voted!  See page 02 for a message from our International President Eric McHenry or you can read about it in the July digital Blue Beret, which should be in your inbox.

The August 10, 2024 luncheon will be at Hi Sign Brewery in Austin at 12:30pm. Please let me know if you will be attending and deadline is August 5th, 2024 for head count.

The Mother Neff State Park rally for August 29 – September 2 remains full. The agenda and rally fee will be sent to the attendees by the last week in July.  It’ll be a fun rally!  Give me a call if you would like to be on the waitlist.

International rally in Sedalia, MO – This rally has less than 70 site remaining which means we have over 1,400 rigs attending. It is quite a sight to see that many rigs...period!  For all those that just attended the Region 9 rally and had a great time there; International has the same amount of energy on a bigger scale.  Reserve your site before miss out on this exciting rally.  Don’t forget to get your registration in for the Region 9 breakfast on October 7 at 8 am. (Region Breakfast Link). This will be a great opportunity to see all your friends from the other clubs/units. There will also be a Region 9 hosted blood drive at the rally. Before I forget, it sounds like everyone attending international will have between a ½ to ¾ of a mile between their rig to the main event location.  Transportation options are:  1) rent a golf cart, 2) bring your bikes/ebikes to get around 3) drive to the meeting spaces (limited parking for this option and 4) walk.  I will keep an eye out for other transportation options and send it out later.  If you go to the ACI website you will also see the schedule and tours you can sign up for.

I would like to welcome our new members John Robinson (from San Antonio, TX), Shaun and Barbara Simpson (from Frankston, TX) and Alan and Lisa Dove (from Huntsville, TX). Ally and I look forward to seeing each of you are a future rally!  My contact information is listed below, if you wanna chat Airstream!
