Unit President's Message

Summer has arrived and the Texas camping is in full swing. There is nothing like camping in the northern climates during the hotter Texas months.  But only a true southern camper knows how to comfortably camp in 100-degree weather. The days you don’t need to turn on the water heater because the water in the hose has received enough love from the sun. That a rig without awnings is just a giant oven that is excellent for baking all of your stuff all at once. A new bag of ice only last for a few hours in an ice chest and constantly needs your attention to keep your drinks cold. Ah, that is TX camping….

URGENT ATTENTION REQUESTED – WBCCI Amendment!!! An email is coming to your registered email address(es) with ACI on June 20th. The amendment is to decide whether or not to have a Financial Director versus an International Board of Trustees (IBT) member being in a Treasurer role. Please check out this link on the ACI site to be an informed voter: 2024 Special Election | ACI (airstreamclub.org).  Voting is open June 20 – June 27, 2024. VOTE EARLY!

Crockett Lake Rally with GHAC on June 27 – There are spots available for this rally. Check out page 6 for details.  There is a $21/per person rally fee for this event and can be paid through the JotForm link.  This will be a fun joint summer rally!

The August 10, 2024 luncheon will be at Hi Sign Brewery in Austin at 12:30pm. Please let me know if you will be attending. The taproom has air conditioning and will be our gathering location. The venue has an assortment of beer, wine, coffee and soft drinks. I even noticed that they had Mexican coke on the menu.  There are two different food trucks onsite; Norte Tacos - provides tacos and quesadilla and Ranch Hand - offers bowls, sandwiches and burgers. (Click on the links to see the menus.)

The Mother Neff State Park rally for August 29 – September 2 is full. This is a great time to test out your southern summer camping skills! wink…wink. The park website shows that the park remains full. I’m taking people for the waiting list in case someone in our group cancels. Since late August is known for being hot, we will be using their cabin to hold our dinners and activities in. There will be a rally fee to help cover the cost of the cabin. The rally hosts have a great itinerary planned and should be a lot of fun.

International rally in Sedalia, MO - For those on the caravan to Sedalia, we will have a potluck at Catherine’s Landing with NTAC and Heart of Texas Airstream groups. It will be a large group and great opportunity to meet other Airstreamers. Additional information for the caravan can be found on page 7. Detailed itinerary is still in the works.  Registration is open for the Region 9 breakfast on October 7 at 8 am. (Region Breakfast Link).  Deadline to register is September 10, 2024.  JUST Register!
