Highway 61 Revisited Caravan

From Bob Dylan to Bix Beiderbecke; BB King to the King of Rock and Roll; from the Delta Blues to Cajun zydeco and New Orleans jazz, join us as we explore the music, history, food and people along the mighty Mississippi.

We gather in Duluth, MN, the birthplace of Bob Dylan, and make our way down the iconic US Highway 61 to New Orleans. In Red Wing, MN the highway meets the Mississippi River; the two track along together for the rest of our journey.

This is a route rich in American music. Dylan, of course, and the Blues Highway in Mississippi. We also plan a visit to Prince’s recording studio near Minneapolis, a riverboat cruise in Hannibal, MO and several days in Memphis. Once in Mississippi, US 61 becomes the Blues Highway. We will visit music venues at the “crossroads of the blues” in Clarksdale, MS. A side trip takes us into Zydeco country for several days in Breaux Bridge, LA. We conclude our journey sampling the jazz offerings (and food) of New Orleans.

We will also learn about the “Father of Waters”: its role in the history, commerce, literature and mythology of the country.

Highway 61 Revisited was run a couple times in the past and is back by popular demand in 2026. Please plan to join us as we spend time “rollin’ on the river”!
