Early Bird FREE Camping at Carter Lake

We've had CAC rallies for the last five years at South Shore Campground at Carter Lake.  The lake is three miles long and about one mile wide. This beautiful 1,100-acre reservoir is surrounded by 1,000 acres of public lands. It's a great place for fishing, sailing, water skiing, camping, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, scuba diving, and rock climbing.

There will be happy hours at 5 p.m. every evening for those who'd like to gather around the fire ring.  Bring your own beverage and a small appetizer to share.  

No meals will be provided, but we encourage you to informally gather for meals with your CAC neighbors.  That's what a group campground is all about!  Additionally, The Windjammer Restaurant and Bar is located at the north end of Carter Lake. They serve real Texas BBQ and more. They often have live music. www.windjammer-roadhouse.com

There are also two convenience stores within the park where you can buy firewood and a few supplies.

Larimer County Division of Natural Resources is hosting the press event and ribbon cutting ceremony as part of the grand opening of the group campground. The official ribbon cutting is 5/12 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.  S'mores and camp snacks will be provided after the ceremony.  The county asked for our input when designing this campground, so we were invited to be the first campers.  The campground doesn't officially accept reservations until later in May.  We have the whole place to ourselves!
