On 7/17/26-7/19/26 please join the Hudson Mohawk Club and the Northeast Mountaineers for a joint rally at the historic Scaroon Manor campground on Schroon Lake, NY (they are spelled differently). The state campground is rich in history dating back to the revolutionary war. More recently it was a resort for the rich and famous from New York City with its heyday in the 1930-1940’s. The movie titled Marjorie Morningstar was filmed there in 1957 starring Gene Kelly and Natalie Wood. Sadly, a few remnants and an abandoned amphitheater are all that remain but if you listen closely, you can still hear the music. 

 

Information concerning the campground:

• No water or electricity at the sites but spigots and bathhouses with running water 

• Dump station

• Nice beach with swimming 

• Kayak and canoe rentals

 

Some things to do

• Visit the town of Schroon Lake. There are several shops and restaurants

• Approximately ½ hour south of Fort Ticonderoga and ½ north of Lake George

• Stone Bridge and Caves. The attraction boasts “The largest marble cave entrance in the eastern U.S.”

• Hiking trails

• Explore Frontier Town. This is abandoned western theme amusement park that was open from the1950’s to the 1990’s. It claims to have attracted 300,000 visitors a year in its heyday

• Paradox Brewery overlooks the former parking lot of Frontier Town

• The reservation window is 9 months and is now open

• It is recommended reservations be made early as the campground usually sells out.
