Discovering Cascadia
Discovering Cascadia is an exploration of the forces that defines the Pacific Northwest (PNW) today. We will explore all facets from environmental, cultural, social, geophysical, and economic. We will discover explore the foods, wines, wilderness, geography, music, and industry. Learn how the region is influenced by the indigenous people, those that came much more recently, and the socioeconomic events that was the catalyst in forming modern PNW culture today. The journey begins in Boise, Idaho then moves to NE Oregon and into the Walla Walla valley. From there it swings NE to Spokane and into the Inland empire. We will briefly sojourn into the wilderness of the North Cascades, before crossing the Cascades via Leavenworth. Our caravan will explore the metropolis of Seattle, then go north an explore the Salish sea and the San Juan islands observing Orcas, Otters, and other marine life in their native habitat. Then we cross the triangle of fire by Ferry and explore the Olympic peninsula. Look down the throat of Mount St. Helens and the mouth of the Columbia River, as it spills into the Pacific Ocean creating some of the most treacherous waters in North America. We will move on from there into the Willamette valley then continue south via land and along the Oregon coast, before we explore Crater Lake. Then work our way North again through Central Oregon to Bend and observe the regions volcanic legacy. Our journey will end near Government Camp with a final dinner at Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood.
