Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park is a little-known gem of Jacksonville FL.  It is a fun place for the whole family, including children and pets.   This city-owned park provides 1.5 miles of white sandy beaches on the Atlantic Ocean with multiple convenient parking areas, restrooms, and pavilions.  Seasoned surfers flock to “The Poles” on the north end to catch some of the best waves in Florida.  The campground features almost 300 campsites with full hookups, shady spaces, and easy access to over 20 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails.   It is located next to a 60-acre fresh water lake that fishermen and paddlers enjoy, but beware of the longtime resident alligator (no dogs allowed in the lake)!  Rentals are available for bikes, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, and pedal boats.  Dogs are welcome on the beach and hiking trails as long as they are on a leash and supervised.  Prepare for the Pet Contest by teaching them tricks, bringing crazy costumes, or showing whose pet looks the most like their person!

The Hosts are camping on site 132 and reserved Pavilion #9 lake side for our use that weekend.  As of the end of July, there were over 20 sites available between 122-175 and many more in the other loops.   The club is providing a dinner on Saturday, followed by the annual meeting.   Watch for emails from Gina Fafard about the election of officers and meeting agenda.  Please make plans to attend if you can.  We would love to rally with you!
