Sweetwater Summit

While the official beginning of Summer is not until Tuesday, June 21st, SNU members will celebrate the Summer Solstice two days early at our Sweetwater Summit Rally. No business meeting or serious discussion of constitution and bylaws, just come out and enjoy the camaraderie, fellowship and sunshine! The Sweetwater Summit Rally is one of our favorite SNU dispersed destinations. The rally runs from Thursday June 16th to Sunday June 19th but we welcome our members and guests to come out any day and enjoy the rally.

Sweetwater Summit is located 100 miles from Reno, NV on NV-338 south of Smith Valley, NV adjacent to the Sweetwater (Marine Corp) Airport and the highway department material stockpile area and weather station, elevation 6810’. We traditionally camp on the small dry lake/meadow on the east side of NV-338 behind the Koll and weather station however it is a popular place so look around east and west for shiny aluminum; you might find us 2-1/2 miles west along NF-069 at Sweetwater Canyon. Click the aerial photo to bring up the Google Map link.

Both the dry lake/meadow and Sweetwater Canyon provide immediate access to National Forest roads and trails for hiking, biking and 4 wheeling. We’ll celebrate the Sumer Solstice with shared meals and pot luck dinners Friday and Saturday nights. No reservation is required but we’ll look to guide you in if you RSVP to snu157@wbcci.net.
