Dear Members,

It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to serve as the incoming President of the New Jersey Unit #66. Before we officially begin this journey together, I would like to introduce myself and share my intentions for the start of my term.

My Background

I am a New Jersey native from Morris County and a graduate of Rowan University. My wife, Tina, is from Gloucester County and a graduate of The College of New Jersey. She taught elementary school for several years, and now works in association management—experience that will be valuable as we navigate club operations, communication, and member engagement. Our family includes our three children: Molly, a junior communications major at Elon University, and Madelynn and Mia, both in high school.

Professionally, I have spent 27 years in the accounting and investment industry, and I have served as the Head of Fund Accounting at T. Rowe Price in Baltimore for the past 16 years. Before joining T. Rowe Price, I was an auditor with Deloitte in Philadelphia. My experience in governance, financial controls, process improvement, and organizational management has shaped how I approach leadership and collaboration.

When we are not working or traveling in our Airstream, I enjoy several other hobbies. I am an amateur brewer and certified beer judge, specializing in German-style beers. I have been fortunate to win national awards in homebrewing competitions and, as any displaced New Jerseyan would understand, I am also on a lifelong quest to create the perfect slice of pizza.

My Focus for the First Months

As I start my term, my primary objective is to learn. I want to understand our people, our history, our future aspirations, and how I can best support this organization.

Leading a club with more than 60 years of heritage is a daunting responsibility, and I intend to approach it with respect, curiosity, and humility. In beginning this role, I am guided by Wally Byam’s principle: “Let’s not make changes — let’ s only make improvements.” I do not want to disrupt what works; instead, I want to strengthen and expand upon it.

Looking Ahead: Fun, Fellowship…and Adventure!

The mission statement of WBCCI says: “Wally Byam Caravan Club International, Inc. is a diverse community of Airstream owners with a commitment to Fun, Fellowship, and Adventure.”

In my short time with the New Jersey Unit, it has become obvious that we truly excel at Fun and Fellowship. Where I hope to guide us is toward Adventure! This does not mean changing the club for those who love it the way it is. Rather, it means creating additional opportunities for:

  • Members seeking new experiences
  • Members who are inactive
  • New Airstreamers looking for community

Closing Thoughts

As we look ahead, there are still open positions on the Executive Board, as well as several committees that will need members in the coming year. If you are interested in helping shape the direction of our Unit, please contact nju_aci@outlook.com.

This year, members can look forward to improved ways to stay connected, including the launch of a new club Facebook group, a refreshed newsletter, and updates to the club website.

Thank you for your continued support of New Jersey Unit #66. I look forward to an engaging and adventurous year ahead.

With gratitude and anticipation,

James Lorden
