Background
The East Tennessee Airstream Club of Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI), Incorporated was organized at a dinner meeting held November 6, 1976 at the Pioneer House Restaurant in Maryville, Tennessee. Rex Hatton was elected temporary Chairman until officers could be elected. Having a sufficient number of Airstream owners’ signatures, denoting interest in becoming members of WBCCI, the list was presented for a Charter.
A Provisional Charter was granted November 15,1976. Bylaws were accepted December 11, 1976. A Permanent Charter was granted March 1, 1977. The Dogwood Blossom became the adopted emblem.
An East Tennessee President's flag (for our local club) was ordered May 14,1977. The Charter was presented to Rex Hatton at the International Rally in Bozeman, Montana on June 28, 1977. On October 7, 1977 the first Presidential Plaque was presented to outgoing President Rex Hatton.
Blue berets and Badge inserts were ordered. A Unit flag was designed and an order was placed for member purchase in 2002. The design was modified in 2018 following the Unit name change to East Tennessee Airstream Club. New Club flags were ordered.
2006. ETN club members Harold and Sandy Hughes founded the National Storytelling Festival Rally at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray TN. It has been officially recognized as a National Event Rally by WBCCI. This provides nearby camping for those wanting to attend the annual International Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough TN.
2020. A club logo was designed and officially recognized by WBCCI in May of 2021. Long sleeve t-shirts ordered in 2020 and short sleeve t-shirts ordered in 2021.
2020. Streamin' the Gap street camping rally in Cumberland Gap TN was launched in partnership with the city's Guardians of the Gap non-profit. This was started by ETN members Mary Johnson and Bruce Jones. The intent is to wake up the downtown of a small town by attracting more tourism to the area. All profits are kept by the city of Cumberland Gap.
2022. Our club's accounting system was automated using Money Minder to allow for more transparency and to make it easier to generate reports.
2023. A shopping cart called Cheddar Up was implemented that integrates with Money Minder to ease in the collection of rally fees and tracking of registrants. The News-a-Palooza newsletters were added to the club website for archive purposes.
2024, a group texting application called Slack was implemented and used at rallies.
