Mackinac Island is near the Michigan Upper Peninsula, and is full of charm and beauty, located right where Lakes Michigan and Huron come together.  While there are hotels and homes on the island, it is only accessible by ferry and does not allow motorized vehicles - horses and bikes are the main modes of transportation on the island.  The island itself is only about 6 miles around and has a small town, roads, trails and several historical sites. There are stores, fudge shops, restaurants, and other attractions on the island.  On the mainland are two towns connected by a bridge, Mackinaw City and St Ignace, both of which are larger towns with shopping, grocery stores, restaurants, and the ferry port.
