TOP Park History
Organizational meetings for what was to become the Georgia Unit – WBCCI were held in 1961 with the charter granted in July. There were 31 charter members.
On February 23, 1967 a lease was signed with Creed Dyer for his trailer park near Helen, GA. It had 10 hookups and an old store building. A contest was held to select a name and Joe Bennett’s TOP OF GEORGIA won.
The park was opened officially on March 18, 1967, with 20 complete hookups at $1.50 per night and undeveloped sites at $1.00 per night.
By 1972, enough trailer pads had been added to make 102 complete hookups and 15 others with water and electricity.
In 1977, a contract was signed with Creed Dyer to purchase the Top of Georgia property.
In 1981, 84 completed sites were added in the area below the bridge.
Currently there are over 300 members in the Georgia Unit. We are proud of our unit and of our beautiful park. Come on up and enjoy the beautiful blooming flowers and trees in the spring, the cool breezes in the summer, the colorful fall foliage, and the beautiful winter landscape. You can swing, hike, visit, bicycle, and make new friends while renewing old friendships. The mountains are calling and so is the Top of Georgia!
