About Local Clubs

In WBAC, “Unit” is pretty much synonymous with “Fellowship”.   Each unit has its own unit constitution and bylaws, elect officers and set its own unit dues.   Many units have monthly luncheons or dinners at local restaurants.   Units are required to schedule a minimum number of rallies each year and often caravan to the Region 9 Rally and the International Rally as a group.

Units are very loosely associated with a geographic area although you do not have to live in a particular area to join a particular unit.  Many times folks join a more remote unit because friends or family belong to that particular unit or because the activities of that unit are more appealing.

You may also become an associate member of a unit.  Many folks who spend summers and winters in different geographic areas are often regular members of a unit in one area and associate members of a unit in the other area.

Each unit has elected officers and appointed committee chairpersons who plan the unit activities.  Elected officers are the President, the 1st and 2nd Vice-Presidents, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, and Trustees.

Members take turns in helping at the rallies and other events.  At each rally, volunteer members act as hosts to plan the meals and activities.  Generally, each member is expected to host at least once yearly.   Rallies include a short business meeting to conduct unit business and plan future events.

Oklahoma Airstream Club, #88

Oklahoma Unit

Oklahoma WBCCI Unit 88 is currently the only WBCCI sponsored unit in the state of Oklahoma.  Most of our members are located in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and surrounding communities.  However, we welcome and encourage all Airstreamers to join us regardless of their geographic location.  All of our rallies and campouts are for the whole family.  We have two annual rallies 4-5 days long and weekend campouts for those that can only get together for short outings.  Most rally sites are at full or partial hook-up locations with an occasional boondocking trip to learn and experience all our Airstreams have to offer.

Greater Houston Airstream Club, #155

HOUSTON AND SURROUNDING AREA

The Texas Coastal Plains Unit was formed in 1975 by a group of members from the Texas Gulf Coast Unit who felt the need for a Houston based Unit. It covers about a 100 mile radius around the Greater Houston area although we have members from all over the state and nation. Our roughly 150 members represent a wide range in age from young couples with children to great-grandparents, active workers and retirees, travel trailers and motor homes, married couples and singles.

We are a very active group with 10 unit rallies a year, local dinners and a weekly golf outing. See our homepage for a list of upcoming activities. Our members travel extensively both on their own and on Unit and National Caravans. The monthly newsletter helps keep us all in touch. Most of our unit rallies are planned around weekends and located such that those who are still working and those with with young children can participate. Our members represent nearly every occupation and interest group. Collectively, we have a wealth of experience in traveling and maintaining Airstream RV’s. We love to share our experiences with those new to Airstreaming. Our programs are so varied, we are sure that we’ll have some that interest you.

Heart of Texas Camping Unit, #9

Airstream founder Wally Byam challenged us “To strive endlessly to stir the venturesome spirit.” We, at Heart of Texas Camping Unit (HOTC), take every opportunity to share our passions, feel inspired, and awaken our venturesome spirits. We often boondock at the LBJ National Grassland, caravan to regional and national rallies, and participate in vintage Airstream activities. Our annual holiday camp-outs, which include Halloween decorating and our “Aluminum Chef” competition, are the rivets that hold us together.

So, if you’re looking for a group that’s heavy on fun and light on formality, check us out.

Texas Alamo Unit, #168

San Antonio and Surrounding Area

The Texas Alamo Unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI) was founded on October 30, 1977. That weekend nine families who were members of the WBCCI gathered at Lockhart State Park, Texas, to formulate the bylaws and initiate the procedure to obtain a WBCCI charter. The Unit was specifically founded to accommodate Airstream owners who were not able to routinely travel great distances. The Unit Charter was granted and the Texas Alamo Unit assumed its place in Region 9 of the WBCCI.

Unit rallies are normally held a maximum of 150 miles from San Antonio. However, for reasons of geographical variety and campground availability, the rule may be occasionally altered.

The incoming Unit President schedules rallies for his/her presidential year for the months of October, November, January, February, March, April, May, and September. The September rally will be used for the installation of new Officers and Trustees for the coming year. All rallies are scheduled to start with an opening ceremony late in the afternoon of the fourth Friday of each rally month. The rally ends after breakfast and a devotional service the following Sunday.

On the first Saturday of each month, September through May, the Unit holds a Dinner Club meeting at a local restaurant in the San Antonio area.

If you own an Airstream product, we invite you to become a member of our local family. Membership in the Texas Alamo Unit will give you more opportunities to use and enjoy your Airstream.

Our Motto is “Fun, Friendship and Adventure”.

Texas Hill Country Unit, #104

Central Texas

The Texas Hill Country Unit was chartered by WBCCI in January 1966.  With a rich 51-year history, we are a relatively new and dynamic unit with 50% of our members joining within the past five years.  Our members cover a vast area of Texas beyond the hill country, in fact, we make a “star” pattern … from Dallas to the north, Houston to the east, San Antonio to the south, Fredericksburg and Brownsville to the west.  Many live along the I-35 corridor.  We conduct rallies 8 months of the year from January – May and from September – November.  Annual luncheons are held in August and December.  Our members caravan together as a unit to Region and International Rallies as well as Unit caravans in Texas.  Our monthly rally sites are selected by our unit president, but it’s our member hosts that make each rally special.  Known for taking unusual tours, we find access to places that individuals could not go.  Come join us for a rally and we’ll introduce you not only to campers and caravaners but also to wine makers and gardeners, fishermen and golfers, crafters and musicians, hikers and explorers, game players and chefs, camp fire sitters and story tellers, parents and grandparents, workers and retired folks, pet owners, civic volunteers … we are friends, we are family.  Come see for yourself!
