Tours & Sightseeing

Each year at the Airstream Club International Rally, you'll find group tour options pre-arranged for your enjoyment.

This year, there are two guided tour options to explore the history and charm of Central Pennsylvania!

GUIDED GROUP BUS TOURS

Strasburg Railroad, Pennsylvania Railroad Museum & Shady Maple Smorgasbord

Tour: Friday, August 22, 2025, 8:30 AM-5:30 PM
Price: $95 per person

Journey to Lancaster County aboard the Strasburg Railroad featuring restored coaches and onboard docents bringing the history of the railroad to life. The tour includes ample time to explore the adjacent Pennsylvania Railroad Museum and its impressive collection of historic locomotives. Of course, no visit to Lancaster County would be complete unless we stop at Shady Maple Restaurant. Located close to the railroad, it is the largest smorgasbord restaurant in the United States, offering excellent food, great service and a wonderful donut and gift shop.

Travel is on an air conditioned tour bus leaving the York Expo Center at 8:30 am and returning at 5:30 pm. Please arrive at the bus stop by 8:15 am to load the bus.

Tour price includes the bus, train ride, museum admission and lunch at the Shady Maple.  

Cancellations prior to July 22, 2025 will receive a full refund.  After that date, no refunds will be made.

Reminder: This tour occurs before the start of the rally, on Friday, August 22, 2025.  If you have not signed up for early parking on Thursday, August 21 or earlier, please call the office at (937) 596-5211 to change your parking date.

Gettysburg National Military Park

Tour: Saturday August 23, 2025, 8:30 AM-3:30 PM
Price: $35 per person

Experience a guided tour of Gettysburg National Military Park, a poignant reminder of the Battle of Gettysburg, a pivotal conflict in the American Civil War. We anticipate visiting the meticulously preserved battlefield, the museum and visitor center. The park also features numerous monuments and memorials that honor the soldiers who fought and died on these hallowed grounds.

Lunch is on your own.  There are two dining options available at the park: the Battlegrounds Café & Grille serving a variety of hot and cold meals, including sandwiches, paninis, pizzas, and hot dogs; and the Refreshment Saloon, designed to resemble a Civil War-era saloon, offering leisurely à la carte dining.

Exploring the areas around York reveals a tapestry of history, culture and natural beauty. Whether you are seeking adventure, education, or relaxation, the destinations within a 65-mile radius of York promise to deliver memorable experiences for all visitors. So, pack your bags and set out to discover these incredible nearby gems.

York County History Center

Explore York — The Nation’s First Capitol. Within York itself, the York County Historical Center offers a comprehensive look into the region’s rich past. The center comprises several sites, including the Colonial Complex, Agricultural & Industrial Museum and the Historical Society Museum. Each location provides a unique perspective on York’s significant contributions to American history, from colonial times through the industrial era. Be sure to visit the York Central Market House, a short walk from the Historical Center, open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM. Transportation will be available daily from the Expo Center to downtown York via Rabbit Transit! Around York

Ever visited an alpaca farm? Less than nine miles from the York Expo Center, Shear Heaven Alpaca Farm offers visitors the chance to walk the fields, pet, and feed alpacas. Open Wednesdays and Saturdays, the farm offers an interactive and educational tour of their facility.  

Or,  travel about 15 miles south to visit the Markets of Shrewsbury for a look at a Pennsylvania Farmers Market at its finest. Purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, dine on a huge variety of treats, or just browse the acres of the market.

Harrisburg - Pennsylvania's Capital City

Located about 25 miles north of York, Harrisburg is a city rich in history and culture. The State Capitol Complex is a must-visit, featuring the stunning Pennsylvania State Capitol building, renowned for its magnificent architecture and vibrant murals. The city also boasts the Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, and the Susquehanna Art Museum. For a relaxing stroll, head to Riverfront Park, which offers beautiful views of the Susquehanna River.

Lancaster

Lancaster is famous for its Amish heritage, but it’s also a hub for performing arts. The Fulton Theatre, an architectural gem, hosts a variety of Broadway-caliber productions. The American Music Theatre offers concerts and shows featuring popular artists and entertainers, making Lancaster a vibrant destination for culture and arts. For an immersive theatrical experience, Sight & Sound Theatre brings biblical stories to life with breathtaking sets and performances — this season featuring Noah.

Longwood Gardens

A bit further afield, but well worth the drive at around 60 miles east of York, Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square offers a breathtaking horticultural experience. Spanning more than 1,000 acres, the gardens feature exquisite floral displays, majestic fountains and serene woodland paths. Seasonal highlights include the dazzling Christmas light displays and the Spring Tulip Festival.

Boiling Springs

Nestled 30 miles west of York, Boiling Springs is a charming village known for its picturesque spring-fed lake and historic architecture. The village is part of the Appalachian Trail, making it a popular spot for hikers. The Boiling Springs Pool, established in 1927, is one of the oldest public swimming pools in the area and offers a refreshing break during the summer months.

The National Civil War Museum

Located in Harrisburg, about 30 miles north of York, the National Civil War Museum offers an in-depth exploration of the Civil War, presenting perspectives from both the Union and Confederate sides. The museum’s extensive collection includes artifacts, documents, and interactive exhibits that bring the history of this turbulent period to life.

Baltimore

Just under an hour from York, Baltimore Maryland offers even more American history, fine dining and activities for all ages. Stop by the Inner Harbor to tour the Historic Ships Museum, visit the world-renowned National Aquarium, or take a short walk to the Port Discovery Children’s Museum. Head over to Fort McHenry and learn about the battle that inspired our national anthem. And if you are a fan of our national pastime, you won’t want to miss a visit to Babe Ruth’s Birthplace and Museum or the opportunity to catch a game at Camden Yards, one of the country’s most beautiful ballparks. The Orioles will be in town all week!
